We’ll support you every step of the way

As independent funeral directors in Didcot and Wantage, we offer a very caring, professional service, tailored to your needs. Be reassured by over three decades of experience, which ensures the day will be everything you want, and need it to be.

Planning a funeral can be daunting, but we will be with you every step of the way, to ensure it is a smooth process, resulting in a day to commemorate and celebrate your loved one’s life.

We will help you with all of these processes.

Arranging the Funeral

Visit us at our homely arranging room, or if you’d prefer, we will visit you at home, at a time that suits you and your family.

We will advise you on what you need to do next, and answer any questions you may have. It’s also our opportunity to get to know you, and hear your memories and stories, to help us plan a personal ceremony.

Advice on Cost

You will receive a full written estimate, which will be signed, giving you confidence in the funeral we have arranged. Throughout the process, we will keep you informed about the fees involved.

The funeral account itself is divided unto two separate parts: our charges and the disbursements.

Our Charges:

Our professional fees will include:

  • Arranging the service
  • Completion of paperwork
  • Liaising with doctors, hospital, minister and crematorium/cemetery
  • Your choice of coffin
  • Collection from a local hospital, nursing home or home address
  • Preparation for viewing in our private chapel of rest
  • Our motor hearse, bearing staff and limousines on the day of the service
  • Conducting the service
  • 24 hour advice and support

Disbursements are fees that we pay on behalf of your family, for example fees to doctors, the crematorium/cemetery, and parochial fees. Our estimate will detail the approximate costs. This makes it simpler for you, as you will only have to settle one account, rather than having to pay many different individuals.

Chapel of Rest

We have a lovely private chapel of rest at both our Didcot and Wantage funeral homes, where you may visit your loved one to say a final goodbye, or leave a letter, photo or small trinket in the coffin with them.

If you don’t feel up to visiting, we can of course place items in the coffin for you. We ask the family to provide suitable clothing, shoes and make-up, if required.

Ministers and Priests

We will arrange for a local minister or non-religious celebrant to take the funeral service.

We have strong relationships with many local ministers and will choose the one that best suits your family. The minister will come and visit you at home, to find out about your loved one, and help them write a personal sermon. They will also give you the Order of Service.

Cemetery or Crematorium

We will liaise with the cemetery or crematorium on your behalf, and choose a convenient time and date.

The crematorium fee includes the use of the chapel for a 30 minute service and the cremation. Burial fees can vary.

Hearse and Limousines

We provide a traditional black funeral fleet, with a purpose built motor hearse and chauffeur-driven limousines, which each carry up to six people, and we can arrange extra limousines if required.

We can also provide a traditional Victorian horse-drawn hearse, teamed with fully liveried black or white horses. You may also decide to personalise the funeral with a more unusual hearse, such as a motorcycle or Land Rover hearse. The choice is yours.

We have a wide range of traditional and contemporary coffins and caskets to suit every taste and budget, include personalised  coffins.

We also have a selection of environmentally friendly coffins made from willow, bamboo and cardboard, and a selection of ashes caskets and urns.

Cremated Remains

At the time of the funeral, it’s not always easy to decide what you’d like to do with your loved one’s ashes.

We can collect the ashes from the crematorium on your behalf, and take care of them until you have chosen the best resting place for them. You may decide to have the ashes scattered in a special place, or to have a burial of ashes service at a cemetery. We can help you with all these arrangements.

Headstones and Memorials

A memorial headstone can help in the gradual acceptance of loss: it is a permanent tribute to your loved one, and can be personalised with your own words, or an inscription. We will help you find the right words to commemorate their life.

Donations to Charity

If you would like charity donations instead of flowers, we will accept and list donations, and forward them directly to the family or to the chosen charity at no extra cost.

Orders of Service Sheets

We can help with the layout and scanning of photos, and our graphic designers will compile the relevant information and produce a proof copy for you to check.

We can also produce keepsake memorial cards containing images and poems, bookmarks, and Mass cards etc. and help with floral tributes, music and the releasing of white doves.
